Little Beans, Little EggPlant and Little Cucumbers....... They're Coming Along In The Garden

The only thing unique in this picture are the black raspberries.  The vine on which they grow have no thorns.  NONE, Not absolutely One. That is what makes these berries one of the most different I've ever seen and they grow here, in my garden.

Yesterday as I watered the garden and  flowers and all points in between I noticed this praying mantis just sitting on a sunflower leaf minding his own business.  I hurried up ran in the house to get my camera and shot these photos.  Only 1 is photo-shopped. The Fish Eyed 3rd Photo.  I left him alone after that being careful not to squirt him off his leaf with my hose and proceeded to water the rest of the garden.

Tornado Warning Storm Clouds One Day......Sunny & Sun Flowers The Next Day

So  comparing and contrasting one day to the next in this photo blog is like night and day. Yesterday there were tornado warnings and sirens blaring and then a rainy deluge, today the sun is shining brightly, the sunflowers are happy and growing from the much needed rain. The farmers(and gardeners) are happytoo.  That's the way it was moving west I guess, and farming and gardening and planting and the whole outdoor experience.

I don't usually post anything here about anything else but my garden and surroundings, but I felt this article was too good not to share with gardeners, nature lovers, and our kind. Z-U-C-H-I-N-N-I.......With a Smile.....That's My Style !!!

The 2nd product of my garden labours has come to fruitation. I harvested, cooked and ate my first summer squash aka zuchinni of the season. Anytime I can cook and eat what I grew, from a seed, is a small wonder and success for me. I do not measure my garden and what it does or not produce by any other standards than my own. I derive great pleasure in the knowing I can do it.  It's simple.  You don't need a horticulturists degree.  You do not have to be a master gardener.  All you need to do is find some dirt, water the dirt, stick a seed in the watered dirt, and watch it grow.  Simple.  Do not be bamboozled by the experts.  Do your homework on the innernet, or from other gardeners, or both and learn your way.
Gardens have been popping up all over the place.  In the inner-city, rooftops, everywhere there is a patch of land, people, kids, young and old are learning about "The Garden" their way.

Smile, Zuchinni Style !!

I parboil the zuchinni, drain, then add a raw scrambled egg mixture, heat on low heat till the eggs are cooked and scrambled, and "Wella"....Simple Easy and Yummy for my Tummy.

The Progress of Tomato Plants and Zuchinni I Grew From Seeds.....Celebrate Your Own Garden, Not Somebody Else's !!!

One thing I've learned as a Home Gardener is to never compare your garden to your neighbors, or anybody  else's on the inter-net for that matter.  Your progress or lack thereof can never be measured by what somebody else did.  This includes Barbra Kingsolver (whom I admire) and who actually journalized and wrote a book about her families year of growing, harvesting and canning their own food. It was an instant success.  As other people around the internet chroniclize their gardens, it doesn't make much sense comparing.  The fact that the home garden  is catching on is reason enough to celebrate everybodies gardens.

The Moon Flowers Have Landed and Are Blooming !!!!

For those who have never seen a moon flower this is them.  They are big and huge and resemble a nuked morning glory, for lack of a better analogy. I grew these from seeds, and every year I save the seed pods, so I have more seeds next year.  Last year I wrappped up some of the seeds, put 'em in baggies in decorative packages, and gave them to friends and family for Christmas. Moon Flowers are an exotic flower treat.  I now hear they are doing well in the people's gardens I have given them to.  My friends love them. They are not hard to grow.  They are hardy and can endure rough soil.
The fragrance they give off is heady stuff. 

Talking about heady stuff, some say the moon flower pods can be used as a trippy tea.  I would not know.  I just grow them, I don't ingest them....and I read things on the Inter-net.  Look it up. Oh, and why do they call them Moon Flowers, you may ask? Because they only open at night.
